A BROMSGROVE woman is embarking on a charitable journey to Everest base camp in honour of a friend who died of the cancer.

Karen Cartlidge, will take on the 100 km trek to a height of 5,364 metres in memory of her good friend, Pete Allen who died earlier this year of disseminated cancer. Pete liked a good walk which has inspired the ‘Walk for Pete feat.

Karen said: “When the going gets tough both physically and mentally, I know thinking of Pete will spur me on.”

She will be raising funds through the Bromsgrove District Branch of Blood Cancer UK, who have been raising money for 35 years to make a positive impact on those affected by the disease.

“Thank you for generous donations, no matter how big or small, your incredible support will not only help me conquer my challenge but also contribute to vital research and support for individuals battling blood cancer,” Karen added.

“Let’s trek to Everest Base Camp for this worthy cause and make a difference together.”

Karen has a goal to raise £1 for every metre she will ascend up the world’s highest mountain. So far she has raised £549 of her £5,364 total.

She found out about the Bromsgrove District Branch of Blood Cancer UK, from Nicole Harris who teaches her French.
