BROMSGROVE Cricket Club sealed an impressive 74-run win against Astwood Bank at St. Godwalds Park.
Boars openers Jayden Levitt and Lucas Ingram put on 75 runs for the first wicket as Bromsgrove reached 231 all out in the final over.
And the home side’s bowlers impressed to dismiss Astwood Bank for just 157 as James Bayliss and Tom Russell took three wickets apiece.
The result means Bromsgrove sit sixth in the Worcestershire County League Premier Division table.
After losing the toss and batting first, Bromsgrove made an excellent start as Levitt (73) and Ingram (48) hit 10 fours apiece in a fine first-wicket partnership.
However, Thomas Harris (2-54) bowled Ingram with the Boars batter just two runs shy of a half-century.
Bromsgrove then lost Liam Ridings (7) before Dan Taylor (4-48) trapped Levitt LBW.
Levitt’s dismissal sparked a flurry of wickets as Alex Milton (12), Tom Green (1) and Richard Linfield (6) all departed as the Boars went from 146-3 to 161-6.
However, Darcy Sparks (39) and Alistair Ritchie (14) added late runs with the Boars bowled out in the final over.
And Bromsgrove made the perfect start with the ball as Sparks (2-32) struck with the first delivery of the Astwood Bank innings, removing Jake Browning (0).
Sparks also removed Astwood Bank’s other opener Robert West (1) while Russell (3-50) accounted for Tom Underhill (22) to leave the visitors on 24-3.
Russell then trapped James Pyatt (4) LBW and claimed the wicket of Isaac Hewetson (0) the following ball.
With Astwood Bank on 52-5, Spencer White (29) and Alan White (11) both fell to Bayliss (3-26) with the visitors seven wickets down and yet to reach a century of runs.
Harris (49) produced a fine late cameo for Astwood Bank before being bowled by Bayliss as Linfield (1-3) claimed the final wicket in the 39th over to seal a 74-run victory.
Bromsgrove are next in action against Worcester Nomads on Saturday, August 3 with the game to begin at midday at Station Road.
