MEMBERS of Scouts Bromsgrove held their annual St George’s Day parade from the Housman Statue, through the town centre on Saturday.

The procession journeyed to Artrix where the celebrations continued in the afternoon.

St George is the Patron saint of Scouting, chosen by founder Robert Baden-Powell because of the story that shows him overcoming adversity in the shape of a dragon.

Phil Love, from the scouts, said: “With a larger venue and change of day, we spent months preparing.

“But the people of Bromsgrove came out in force to show their support as we paraded.”

The procession was led by the band of the 2516 Droitwich Squadron on the Air Cadets followed by the vicar of St John’s Church, Rev Ray Khan and Bromsgrove District Council Chairman, Coun Sam Ammar.

Scouts filled Artrix to capacity and were entertained by a performance of George and his Dragon by Scouts 6th Bromsgrove.

The scouting promise was then renewed by all gathered.

District lead volunteer Viv Ware said: “It’s great to be back with record breaking numbers – I am proud of all of the volunteers and young people who made today happen, and thank you to the Artrix for hosting us.”
