'Dedicated' lollipop man gets heartfelt gift from local care home

A DEDICATED lollipop man who helps thousands of children safely across the road every year has received a surprise thank you treat from residents and staff at a Cofton Hackett care home.

Norman Rageh works on school patrol on a busy stretch of road on Leach Green Lane in Rubery, ensuring kids and other pedestrians are safe.

The team at nearby Cofton Park Manor care home on Lickey Road decided to surprise Norman with a selection of thank-you gifts to show their appreciation.

Regional community relations lead, Wendy Sibley, said: “Norman never misses a day and is out even in the most horrible weather. He is committed to ensuring the children cross safely and traffic slows down.

“It is people like him that make our community a safer place. I dread to think what would happen without Norman being there.

“We are so grateful for all he does.”

Norman, who wears a luminous jacket and carries a giant ‘lollipop’, was taken by surprise by the thoughtful gifts handed to him by Wendy.

He said: “I watched Cofton Park Manor being built from the first brick, and the home looks amazing. This is such a kind gesture. Thank you so much.”

The team at Cofton Park Manor enjoy going out into the local community to make random acts of kindness.

Wendy added: “It is very important for us to give something back to the community. We have some extraordinary local people working so hard to make our world a better place.

“We are very grateful to Norman.”

Cofton Park Manor recently celebrated its first anniversary and has been working hard towards its aim of establishing strong roots in the community, by supporting several local charities, including Acorns Children’s Hospice Birmingham.

The home is built on the former Clarks Motors site and also has connections with the local Pride of Longbridge group, with members bringing along some fantastic classic cars from time to time.
