A BROMSGROVE couple have celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary today (Wednesday).

Esther and Fred Burford marked their magnificent platinum milestone with a card from the King and Queen.

Growing up, Esther lived in a little village called Ivington Green near Leominster where she also went to school.

After that she moved up to Bromsgrove to work at Wendron House as ‘live-in’ cook.

Fred had grown up in Bromsgrove, going to school at Watt Close (now St John’s Middle) and working at Garringtons.

The pair met in 1953 and married a year later at St John’s Church in Bromsgrove.

They went on to have two daughters – Pauline and Val.

Esther and Fred both agree the secret to a happy marriage is good communication, being active, spending lots of time together and going out for meals.

They both love going to the horse racing and football.

Val said: “It is a fantastic achievement – they are so good together.

“Me and all the rest of the family want to wish them a very happy 70th anniversary.”

The pair will be celebrating tomorrow (Saturday) with a big party in a marquee at the Bromsgrove Unionist Club, surrounded by family and friends.
