THE LICKEY Hills annual Wassail celebration proved to be a delightful affair despite earlier rain threats.
Families and children gathered at the Visitor Centre to partake in the cherished tradition which kicked off with a lively performance by the Black Adder Morris, where participants reveled in music and dance.
Led by Senior Ranger Steve Hinton, Queen Pea and King Bean, the crowd made its way to the heritage orchard where wassailers made as much noise as possible to ‘awaken the fruit trees and frighten any harmful spirits’ in hope to secure a good harvest.
Local poet Spoz added charm with a specially crafted poem, followed by a spirited mummers play by staff and volunteers.
The traditional Wassail Song was sung before wassailers finished the tradition with warm apple drinks by the campfire.
