THE UK’S poet laureate will be visiting Worcestershire as part of his 10-year tour of libraries across the kingdom.
Simon Armitage will give a reading at the Hive Library in Worcester on March 9, 2024 from 7.30pm to 8.30pm.
Armitage, the UK’s poet laureate since 2019 will take the stage to perform a series of readings alongside Amelie Simon, Worcestershire’s Young Poet Laureate 2023.
He said: “I want to celebrate the physical space of libraries and take my work back into places that have given me so much.”
Each Spring this decade, Simon Armitage will give readings in libraries across the UK, from flagship libraries of big cities to the smaller ones that serve rural and remote communities.
Using the alphabet as a compass, his journey will celebrate the library – one of the great and necessary institutions.
Councillor Marcus Hart, Cabinet Member for Communities, at Worcestershire County Council said: ”I am delighted to welcome Simon Armitage to The Hive, in what will be an evening filled with entertainment and poetic brilliance.
“Amelie Simon, our current Young Poet Laureate, will join him on stage, adding a wonderful local touch to the event.
“This promises to be a captivating celebration of literature, and I encourage everyone to join us for what is sure to be an unforgettable evening.”
