RESEARCH which looks at online searches has revealed the UK’s top ten Christmas carols. Now, you will have probably been to carol concerts this year – maybe you are heading to one today or tomorrow.

According to the survey, Silent Night is the most popular. It has been translated into hundreds of languages and has even been recorded by pop music artists. There are 137,000 different versions and it is the most recorded holiday song.

In second place is Carol of the Bells which began as a Ukranian folk song. New lyrics were later added by a Ukranian-American composer. Carol of the Bells receives almost 23,000 searches for per month.

Away in a Manger was third in the poll – there are 21,000 monthly searches for that particular carol.

Making up the rest of the top ten are O Holy Night (fourth), In the Bleak Mid-Winter (fifth), Joy to the World (sixth), Hark the Herald Angels Sing (seventh), O Come All Ye Faithful (eighth), O Little Town of Bethlehem (ninth) and Good King Wenceslas (tenth). See below for the figures.
