Bromsgrove cafe owner's delight at Banksy-style Remembrance art

A BROMSGROVE cafe owner arrived at work to a pleasant surprise on Saturday morning (November 11) after finding an Armistice Day inspired mural graffiti’d outside.

The street art – created by anonymous Birmingham artist Disney – was painted on Big Dave’s Cafe on Worcester Road, Bromsgrove and featured a black and white silhouette of a soldier alongside a bright red poppy and the words ‘Lest We Forget’.

It was painted in the artist’s signature stencil style, which draws similarities to the works of famous stencil artists including the ever popular Bristol born Banksy and French graffiti artist, Blek Le Rat.

Cafe owner, David Blackurn, 51, who goes by Big Dave, told the Standard: “I thought it was absolutely brilliant. It’s just great for it go on my building, its really poignant.

“I couldn’t have wished for anything better.

“My father was in the army, so we grew up going to the Remembrance Sunday parades and still go every year.

“We celebrated 11 years of the cafe this month and to have this appear over Remembrance weekend was very fitting for us.”

This is not the first time Disney has created artwork in Bromsgrove.  Last September he put together this picture (below) on the wall of Sunny’s Fryer chip shop – again in Worcester Road.

And Disney also created a thought-provoking piece in Droitwich town centre of a boy watching a television with the words ‘DON’T THINK’ on the screen.

He documents his graffiti on Instagram, where he has been active since September 2020.
