Norbury Players to take audiences back to the Wild West with classic Oklahoma!

Bromsgrove Editorial 15th Oct, 2023   0

A HIGH-SPIRITED rivalry between local farmers and cowboys provides the colourful backdrop for the classic musical Oklahoma! being staged by the Norbury Players.

The production of the first Rodgers and Hammerstein’s collaboration is still regarded as the masters’ most innovative, setting the standards and rules of modern musical theatre.

The action takes place just after the turn of the 20th century and centres on Curly, a charming cowboy, and Laurey, a feisty farm girl, who play out their love story.

Their romantic journey, as bumpy as a ride down a country road, contrasts with the comic exploits of brazen Ado Annie and hapless Will Parker in a musical adventure embracing hope, determination and the promise of a new land.

This year marks the 80th anniversary of Oklahoma! and it was last performed at the Norbury in 1993.

The Players are excited to bring back this show which is presented by arrangement with Concord Theatricals Ltd.

Performances take place at 7.30pm from Wednesday to Saturday, October 18 to 21, and from the following Thursday to Saturday, October 26 to 28.

Tickets are available at norburytheatre.co.uk/or by calling 01905 770154.
