Alvechurch nursery celebrates another positive Ofsted inspection

Bromsgrove Editorial 16th Oct, 2023   0

A BROMSGROVE nursery has again received the plaudits for its care provision following its latest Ofsted inspection.

Sandhills Day Nursery on Swan Street, Alvechurch was given a ‘Good’ level of effectiveness in all areas during its one day inspection in September.

Despite dropping from an ‘Outstanding’ inspection in 2019, the early years education provider has been commended for its ambitious curriculum covering all areas of learning.

Although, the report did note a failure from staff to fully utilise what they know about the children to help plan meaningful and stimulating activities for children to access, sometimes resulting in disinterested and disengaged learners.

Staff at the nursery expressed feeling supported by leadership, who are on hand to help when required, and provide opportunities for staff development.

However, leaders can fall short of supervision and monitoring of staff to help raise the quality of teaching.

Children are read to with ‘excitement’ and are regularly observed and assessed to guide development and to raise concerns to parents and relevant professionals when necessary.

Parents have an ‘extremely positive’ perception of the setting and are liaised on their children’s progress and development. Staff develop a good understanding of children’s needs before they start at the nursery.

Staff rely on a wide range of activities to help the children learn about themselves and others, and children are given plenty of opportunities to get physical in their play.

Safeguarding was considered effective, with a safe, secure and clean environment for the children throughout including effective fire safety procedures.

Staff were commended for good knowledge of a range of different types of abuse and an understanding of actions to be taken to keep children safe from harm.

The early years provider was encouraged to support children in better regulating their own emotions and aid them in learning what is expected of them.
