Alvechurch ranked in top 20 of places most likely to be burgled

ALVECHURCH’S B48 postcode is ranked in the top 20 areas in the UK to be burgled, according to a survey.

The study analysed more than 7million quotes from MoneySuperMarket Home Insurance customers to find the UK postcode areas with the highest and lowest rates of burglary claims since 2020.

Alvechurch was ranked 18, with 41 burglaries per 1,000 quotes.

With 57.83 claims for every 1,000 quotes since 2020, the Birmingham postcode of B94, covering Olton and Solihull is the UK’s burglary hotspot.

Birmingham postcodes account for 16 per cent of the UK’s burglary hotspots with six appearances in the top 50.

David McDermottroe, home insurance expert at MoneySuperMarket said: “While it’s not a surprise to see the list of burglary hotspots dominated by large cities, it is interesting to learn that a large proportion of people in rural areas aren’t protecting their homes with a burglar alarm.

“Although this type of crime may be less common in those areas, unfortunately, no one is immune to burglars.

“If we take simple and effective preventative measures like installing an alarm, investing in decent locks for windows and doors and keeping valuables such as laptops and keys out of sight, it will not only make our homes less attractive to burglars, but it will be harder for them to break in.”
