GET SAFE Worcestershire has joined forces with Worcester Theatres to tour a powerful new play addressing issues surrounding child exploitation and grooming.
Throughout September and October the Get Safe team at Worcestershire Children First will be touring schools with ‘You In?’ which has been written and produced by Worcester Theatres.
The empowering and awareness-raising play is expected to reach around 3,900 young minds across the county, educating children and young people on what they can do if they feel like they are being taken advantage of or exploited.
At the end of each performance, children and young people will be urged to ask questions on subjects, including how to stay safe online, and will offer advice on how they can prevent themselves from being targeted.
Outreach and participation officer at Worcester Theatres, Aaron Corbett, said: “This piece explores online safety, gang culture, the hurt that comes from feeling invisible and the consequences of putting trust in the wrong people.
“This performance aims to educate children and young people on what they can do If they feel like they are being taken advantage of and things that can prevent them from being targeted initially.”
Emma Brittain, Worcestershire Children First’s director of early help, children in need and family front door, said they were proud to be part of the collaboration.
“It is crucial we equip children and young people with the knowledge and awareness of what can happen and who can help to protect them against those who exploit children and young people.”
Get Safe is a multi-agency support and protection for children and young people at risk of criminal exploitation working across Worcestershire communities to disrupt and separate the predators.
