FRIENDS of St John’s Church in Bromsgrove will invite visitors to experience the history of the iconic religious landmark as part of this year’s Heritage Open Days.

The open day, at St John’s Church, Kidderminster Road, Bromsgrove, at 10.30am this Saturday, September 16, will feature the first in the new season of Cake and Coffee Concerts, with Oliver Neale giving an organ recital titled ‘Theme and Variations’.

The concert, deemed a musical journey through the sounds and sonorities of the church’s organ, will be followed by free refreshments and homemade cake.

Continuing through the day, from noon until 2pm visitors will be allowed to climb the bell tower and have a go at ringing the bells.

And, weather permitting, the stairs to the top of the tower will be open for visitors to get a birds eye view of the town and surrounding countryside.

There’s no need to book to climb the tower, but numbers will be limited due to the narrow staircase and small ringing room in the tower.

Inside the church building visitors will be encouraged to have a go on the organ, explore the church and learn about the latest restoration project to save the spire.

There will be refreshments, a history area, a book stall hosted by the Bromsgrove Society and a Creative Corner with the team from Creative Arts Showcase.
