KAI Adan George’s goal secured a first win of the season for Alvechurch as Ian Long’s side battled to a 1-0 victory against AFC Sudbury.

George scored the winner on 38 minutes to ensure Church triumphed in their first home game of the season at Lye Meadow.

The result means Alvechurch sit 14th in the Southern League Premier Central table after two matches.

Chances were at a premium in the opening half-hour before Church keeper Dale Eve made a superb reaction save to keep out Ollie Brown’s volley from close range.

However, the home side took the lead shortly before half time as George produced a clinical finish from the right-hand side of the penalty area into the bottom left corner from MacKenzie Lamb’s pass.

The hosts had a chance to double their lead in the second half only for Ammar Dyer to fire over the bar when well-placed in the box after good work from Jack Concannon.

Church survived a late scare when a ball from the right flashed across the box with no Sudbury player able to turn the cross home.

Alvechurch are next in action away at Mickleover on Tuesday, August 15 with kick-off at 7.45pm at the Don Amott Arena.
