Travellers camped on Sanders Park must be gone by tomorrow as police serve eviction order

A GROUP of travellers who have set up an illegal encampment on Bromsgrove’s Sanders Park must leave the site by 12pm tomorrow (Tuesday).

A total of seven caravans entered the park at the Whitford Road end.

West Mercia Police said the travellers had broken the lock to the barrier put there to prevent incursions.

Police officers have worked closely with partners at Bromsgrove District Council and attended the site this morning for an assessment.

West Mercia Police have now issued a Section 60 Criminal Justice and Public Order notice, as amended by the Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Act 2022, due to the significant disruption caused and because the park is needed for the carnival this weekend. The encampment must be gone by midday tomorrow or could be forcibly removed by the police.

Insp Richard Field said, “The carnival is the highlight of our summer for Bromsgrove residents and visitors alike.

“The encampment will prevent this from occurring so a notice has been issued to remove the encampment to allow residents and visitors to enjoy this weekend’s planned event.

“The local Safer Neighbourhood Team will be monitoring the site closely.”
