BROMSGROVE MP Sajid Javid was the guest of honour at the Asian Business Awards at Edgbaston Cricket Ground.
The event was aimed at toasting the entrepreneurial spirit of the Asian business community.
Mr Javid, who was made the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport and Equalities Minister earlier this year, spoke at the event, where the Midlands Asian Rich List was also revealed.
In his speech he said the event was inspirational and praised the invaluable contribution to the economy and amazing resilience of the UK’s Asian community, despite challenging times.
“Our economy depends on a thriving private sector which is why this Government is working tirelessly to support businesses and cut red tape.
“Not only that, we are creating a fairer society where hard work and ambition can reap rewards and secure a better future for generations to come.” he added.
Speaking to The Standard, he said it was a great opportunity to celebrate Asian owned businesses throughout the West Midlands and the contribution they made to the economy and job creation.
“We are lucky in the West Midlands that businesses are growing and jobs are being created.” he added.
