Wychavon Parish Games see record turnout for cross country event

THE Wychavon Parish Games saw a record number of runners from 17 parishes take part in the cross country event held at Pershore High School.

Some 95 runners competed in the race, sponsored by Schloetter and Co, which was won by Ashton-under-Hill whose six runners scored an impressive 67 points combined.

Eckington placed second with 122 points with Fladbury in third on 156 points, Sedgeberrow were fourth on 200 points with Pebworth fifth on 290 points and Bretforton sixth on 299 points.

The other parishes to take part were Inkberrow, Broadway, Peopleton, Wyre Piddle, Honeybourne, Offenham, Badsey and Aldington, Harvington, Evesham Bengeworth, Hill and Moor and Wick.




And the rounders event also took place at Pershore High School with nine teams taking part after a large number of parishes pulled out.

The event, sponsored by Marshall’s Transport, saw teams split into three pools with the winners from each pool and the highest losing team progressing to the semi-finals.


In the first semi-final, Wick beat Evesham Bengeworth by seven and a half rounders to six whilst Sedgeberrow beat Wyre Piddle by six rounders to two and a half in the other last four tie.

And Sedgeberrow overcame Wick by seven and a half rounders to six in the final with Evesham Bengeworth third ahead of Wyre Piddle in fourth, Badsey were fifth and Eckington sixth.

Ashton-under-Hill and Harvington were the other parishes who took part.

The Bell Boating, sponsored by Malcolm Limrick is the next event of the Games which takes place on Saturday, July 16 on the River Avon at Pershore as part of the larger Pershore River Festival.
