Villa see off Coton

CONFIDENCE is building at Fairfield Villa after they secured a morale-boosting victory over Coton Green in Midland Football League Division Two.

The strike force of Jordan Smart and Dominic Strevens appear to be making the difference as they both netted to give their side a 2-0 advantage.

Coton responded with a goal from Samuel Jones, but Isaiah Graham-Clarke struck to ensure another three points for Fairfield.

General manager Paul Oakes said: “This was a very satisfying result as the players are now getting used to playing together the confidence is building and the cohesion is slowly returning.

“We gave a debut to Adam Blackford and his energy and drive was another plus point as we looked solid in the middle. The real plus was having (James) Finn back who is a class act and we looked a more resolute unit with him in the side.”

The early moments of the match were fairly even, but in the 23 minute Villa got the breakthrough. A wonderful cross from Strevens found Smart who emphatically fired home from close range.

The Bromsgrove side continued to look a real threat going forward, with Graham-Clarke and Janny Dinanga working hard down the flanks.

And they added to their advantage five minutes into the second half when Strevens converted a penalty after Graham-Clarke was brought down in the box.

Villa should have been further in front, but instead they gifted a silly free-kick which resulted in a goal for Jones.

Despite the set-back, though, Fairfield hit back almost immediately as Graham-Clarke raced away and finished coolly to open up a two-goal cushion.
