Under-strength Bartley Green defeat Bromsgrove League favourites Black Horse

A DEPLETED Bartley Green Illey Sunday inflicted a first Bromsgrove & District League Premier Division defeat on new boys Black Horse as they claimed a surprise 2-0 victory.

With seven first team players missing, no recognised defenders and manager Mark McCleary having to play the second half, Bartley Green pulled out all the stops to secure victory over the league leaders thanks to goals from Connor Collins and Miles Newman.

Millfield Rovers made it two wins out of two as they ran out 3-1 victors over Northfield Athletic thanks to strikes from Neil Dews, Chris Lowe and James Ward while Belbroughton Athletic eased to a 3-0 victory at Rubery Athletic.

Rubery cemented their position at the top of Division One with a resounding 4-0 victory over Red Lion with goals from Ben Birch, Sean Donovan, Dan Wells and Lewis McPike.




FC Highgate United, off the back of two consecutive draws, picked up their first three points after edging past Wychbold RBL 3-2 courtesy of goals from Spencer Hunt, Jordan Markall and Laurence Martin.

Elsewhere, Chaddesley Corbett kept up their 100 per cent record with a comprehensive 6-0 victory over FC Hop Pole.


Lewis Phillips bagged a hat-trick while Ryan Moore, Matthew Perry and an own-goal completed the scoring.

Division Two leaders Winyates racked up the biggest scoreline of the weekend as they ran out comfortable 8-1 winners at home to Callowbrook Swifts Green.

Sam Pillinger bagged Green’s consolation.

Hizza United picked up their first three points of the new season as two goals from Ashley Verity and one apiece from Ryan Blake and Ben Briggs secured a 4-2 victory over Spa Athletic.

Awkies Allstars also claimed their first victory of the campaign after edging past Redditch United Sunday 1-0 thanks to Christopher Fox’s late strike.

Chaddesley Corbett Reserves lead the way in Division Three following their convincing 4-1 victory at Meadow Park Youth courtesy of goals from Gary Moriaty, Danny White, Philip Bower and Anthony Ward.

Bromsgrove Corinthians maintained their 100 per cent start after edging past basement club Cofton Old Boys 3-2 who are yet to register their first Bromsgrove League points.

Stoke Works started their campaign in fine form as two goals from Jon Snell and one from Ryan Cooper secured a 3-1 victory over FC Bromsgrove.

Elsewhere, Laburnum and Bromsgrove Academicals shared the spoils in a 2-2 draw.

Lewis Billingham and Chris Hancock netted for Laburnum; Nicholas Baker and Dominic Ward for Academicals.

Finally, in the opening fixture of the Bromsgrove and Redditch Standard Shield, Oak Tree Sporting lead the way in Group C after securing a 3-2 victory over Thomas Brothers.

Two goals from Jack Steele and one from James Keenahan secured the win for Sporting.
