FOOTBALL: BROMSGROVE Sporting will be playing in the 143-year-old FA Cup for the first time this season.

The Rouslers will take on Bewdley Town in the extra preliminary round at the Victoria Ground on Saturday 16th August, at 3pm.

A victory will see them play Coleshill Town or Nuneaton Griff away in the preliminary round on Saturday, August 30.

Then, if this proves successful, they will play Leicestershire team, Barwell in the first round qualifying on Saturday, September, 13.




In the FA Vase, Sporting are initially drawn against Stourport Swifts away on Saturday, September 6 and a win will see them play at home against Tipton Town or AFC Hinckley.

Pre-season friendlies against Highgate United and AFC Hinckley have been cancelled as the two teams join Sporting in the newly formed Midland Football League Division One.


The league season starts on Saturday, August 2 and the fixtures have are yet to be released.

New youth teams

In order to boost the development of the club a new Under-18s team has been organised (following a year’s absence), which will play in the Midland Floodlight Youth League.

The team will be managed by Trevor Carter who makes the move from from Northfield Town and will be supported by Coach Ross Knight.

In a completely new venture the club has also launched its first Under 21 team, aimed at providing a link between Youth team and Open Age football, which will play in the Midlands League South East Division.

The team will be managed by Dave Smith, previously joint manager at Bartley Green in the Midland Combination and assisting at Heath Hayes in the Midland Alliance.

Smith’s assistant will be former Bromsgrove Rovers striker Jon Daniels.

Anyone interested in joining the new team and are under the age of 21 as of August 31, 2014 should email [email protected] or drop down the ground on Tuesday or Thursday evenings.

The first open training session will be at 7.30pm Wednesday, July 16 at Sanders Park.

Sporting also runs an under 16s team, which plays in Division One of Central Warwickshire Youth Football League on a Sunday morning at The Ryland Centre.

They are looking for new players for the coming season to completely re-vamp their squad.
