No Love lost between Church and Kirby

IT WAS another disappointing afternoon for Alvechurch against Kirby Muxloe as they suffered a second defeat of the season to their opponents.

Aaron Love scored the only goal of the Midland Football League Premier Division encounter as the hosts backed up their 2-1 win over Church at Lye Meadow in August with a 1-0 victory on Saturday.

Manager Lee Adams would have been looking for a response from his side after they lost 2-1 at Causeway United last week and they almost went ahead within the first 30 seconds.

Andy Nicol picking up the ball inside the six yard box, but he could not get his shot away as Kirby keeper Warren Butlin latched on to it.

The home side were also lively in the opening stages and Church needed a clearance off the line from Aaron Roberts to keep the match on level terms.

The visitors were dealt a blow when Connor Deards was forced off, but his replacement, Dan Carter made an instant impact as his ball into the box was almost met by Gareth Evans.

Luke Shearer was proving to be Church’s biggest threat going forward, but his efforts could not create a goal as Roberts put his shot wide just before the interval.

After a slow start to the second half, the match suddenly sparked into life when Kirby broke the deadlock. Stuart Parsons produced a fine double save to deny Michael Reeve and Dan Sheahan, but he could not stop the third as Love stabbed the ball home on the 55th minute.

Nicol twice had chances to level the scores, but on both occasions he was unable to trouble Butlin. The Kirby keeper was forced into action on the 80th minute as he did well to tip James Cosgrave’s shot over the bar.

Chruch continued to push for an equaliser, but it was not to be as the home side claimed all three points.
