INSIDE VIEW - Craig Jones' Bromsgrove Sporting column

Bromsgrove Editorial 14th Mar, 2018   0

Bromsgrove Sporting skipper Craig Jones writes for The Standard in the first of his weekly columns after taking over from Robbie Bunn and reflects on the victory over Coventry United as well as his goal on his 200th appearance for the club.

I THOUGHT the first 45 minutes were comfortable for us on Saturday.

We got out the traps really well, our shape was good, we won our battles individually and scored a really good goal early on.

A little bit of intricate passing at the top and we got through.

Obviously the second half we started quite well but the sending off changed the game.

Greggs (Richard Gregory) has just tried to back into the defender and I don’t know what the ref has seen or thought he has seen but it was not a sending off for me.

It changed the game, they (Coventry United) got out at the back more.

When there’s no pressure you drop deeper and we did that but in the end some decent defence and good saves from Reece (Francis) got us the win.

Greggs will be a big loss but I am confident we have got enough in the dressing room and beyond to get us through the games he will miss.

As for me, my goal was 100 per cent over the line.

I saw the ball spin up in the air and I thought there was only one thing I could do with it.

Nine times out of ten it probably would have ballooned over the stands so I am happy the one time out of ten it went in on my 200th appearance.

If I would have been able to write the script before the game I would have said it will be a tight game and I will score the winner with an overhead kick!

Who’d have thought that would actually happen?

I would have loved to have seen the odds on that and put a cheeky quid on it because I would be quite rich now!
