FORMER Bromsgrove Sporting boss Paul Smith has been appointed as joint-manager at Highgate United.
Smith has been out of work since the end of February when he sensational quit from his post with the Rouslers due to differences with the board, claiming he had a ‘lack of support’.
The former Studley gaffer is a prized catch for the Gate who will once again be targeting promotion to Step Four of the non-League pyramid after finishing third last term.
Having guided Sporting to ‘Invincible’ champions in Midland League Division One two seasons ago, Smith also played a major part in the Victora Ground side clinching the MFL Premier title at the first attempt before his sudden departure.
Gate chairman Ashley Pulisciano had been talking to Smith for a number of weeks and it was confirmed today (Saturday) that he had got his man.
“We’ve really got plans to push this club forward, and Smudger is definitely the man to help do that,” he said.
“We were aware that he (Paul) would have countless offers, after all, he’s highly respected and rightly so.
“But we remained hopeful he liked what he heard and I’m really pleased he’s agreed to come on board.”
