FAIRFIELD Villa favourite Jamie Hatfield is set to return to the club following a brief spell at Midland Football League Division One outfit Southam United.

The 25-year-old, who lives in Bromsgrove, ended his six year stay at Fairfield in the summer after agreeing to join the Warwickshire side.

But manager Paul Oakes told The Standard he had managed to tempt Hatfield back to the club. He revealed the utility player could be in action for Villa tomorrow when they travel to high flyers Coventry United.

“I have just put a seven days in for Jamie Hatfield who was at Fairfield for six or seven years before leaving this year to go to Southam United,” he said.

“But the travelling proved too much for him, so I am hopeful I will have him in the side for Saturday.

“During his time at Fairfield, I honestly say he has played in every position. He is comfortable in defence as he is big and strong, he play in the middle of the park and he has been an emergency striker and even in goal,

“He is a smashing lad and a really good footballers, so I am really chuffed to be able to say he has come back to the club.”

Fairfield have also snapped up 20-year-old left back Keir Sellars and Oakes said he could also be involved against Coventry who are currently top of Midland Football League Division Two.

Pete Jenvey, Lewis Cosgrove and Tom Cunningham Smith are set to miss the league clash, but Oakes believes his side was capable of pushing the league leaders close.

“We have got a really tough game against Coventry United who are absolutely flying,” he added. “They are going very well and they will be at home, so they have got a lot in their favour and will be full of confidence.

“But on our day we are more than capable of giving them a game. I don’t expect anything other than a tight game and I will be disappointed if we don’t get anything out of the game.”
