Evenson: Bromsgrove confident ahead of Leamington Spa clash

SKIPPER Mark Evenson says Bromsgrove are full of confidence ahead of their Birmingham League Division One encounter at Leamington Spa following their seven-wicket thrashing of previous league leaders Moseley.

The Boars go into tomorrow’s (Saturday) home clash against the fourth-from-bottom visitors in high spirits as their victory in Birmingham moved them to within 21 points of the promotion places.

Evenson is expected to name the same squad as he did last weekend but is calling on his players to avoid any slip-ups.

“We are full of confidence after stuffing Moseley but again we have to get the basics right to beat a Leamington side who are near the bottom of the table,” he said.

“If we can keep on doing what we have been doing over the last two weeks then we could be walking away with the lion’s share of the points.

“The weather is looking fine for this weekend so we will have a nice wicket to play on but we have to earn the right to win a game of cricket.”

Gareth Williams set Bromsgrove on their way last Saturday as he claimed 6-58 from his 17 overs, including the prized scalp of Warwickshire’s Mark Adair (16), as Moseley were bowled out for 133 in the 46th over.

But the job was far from over as Evenson’s side then had to negotiate their way past Minor Counties bowlers Naqaash Tahir and Fred Eburah.

Despite Eburah picking up three wickets, a quick-fire 86 from star man Alexei Kervezee guided the visitors to 139-3 after 22.1 overs.

“We had a chat before the game that we wanted to put Moseley under pressure to see how much backbone they had,” Evenson said.

“Gareth bowled a superb 17 overs and Alexei batted beautifully to negotiate a strong Moseley bowling attack.

“Even though we lost Jayden (Levitt) and Ashley (Newfield) early on, Alexei was just a different gravy.”
