ON Sunday the Boars fell just short of winning the inaugural WCBL County Cup at New Road.

Thanks to 74 in 46 balls by Adam Jones, and 5-26 by Ash Newdick, the Club won its semi final against Stourbridge, but then lost to Ombersley in the last over of the final.

Unfortunately the inclement weather put paid to all four matches on Bank Holiday Monday, so just three weekends remain to try to get over the line in the promotion battles.

On Saturday, the Boars kept up their promotion challenge on three fronts, with the first, second and fourth XI’s all winning.

The first XI entertained Oswestry and won by 8 wickets in a rain affected match.

Will Tuffin, 17, took 4-33 and captain Mark Evenson 3-29 to restrict the opposition to 172-9, and then Jayden Levitt (66 not out) and Alexei Kervezee (59) saw the Boars home to a 20 point victory.

The secondnd XI travelled to top of the table Astwood Bank and pulled off a narrow victory to move to 2nd in the table. Solid knocks of 40 from Ryan Pedley, 39 from Adam Jones and 36 from skipper Julian Court enabled the team to score 207-8, and then all the bowlers a chipped in to restrict Bank to 169-7.

The fourth XI thumped Himbleton by 137 runs to stay top of its division. 125 from Stephen Moore, 83 from Henry Dwyer and 65 from Mark Burrell enabled the Boars to reach 302-3 and the bowlers then restricted the opposition to 165-3.

However, the third XI were well beaten by Himbleton, which scored 330-8 and then restricted the Boars to 199-8.
