BROMSGROVE Tennis Club seemed to have picked up from where they left off in the winter as they got their summer season off to a strong start.

For the first time the club have entered a Men’s u18 team in the Aegon national competition to give rising stars a chance to pit themselves against their contemporaries.

The side, which was captained by Ollie Stratford and also featured Jack Walters, Aaron Oakes and Peter Petrakis, took on Belbroughton on Saturday and ran out comfortable 6-0 winners.

Sunday was also a successful day for the club with the Men’s Aegon A and B Teams claiming victories. The A Team defeated Malvern 4-2 at Manor Park in Division One, whil the B Team overwhelmed Stourport B and were never in danger of dropping a set as they strolled to a comprehensive 6-0 win to go top of Division Three.

Again Stratford and Walters showed how well they were developing and were partnered by Steve Jones and Matt Smith in their wins.

The Ladies E Team produced a determined showing as they beat David Lloyd Worcester’s D Team 4-2 in Division Eight.

Avril Pugh and Margaret Harris won both their contests while Sue Corfield with Chris Mitchell and Alison Douglas with Carol Cornelissen each won one and lost one.

Finally, the Mixed D Team made it two out of two as they edged Hallow by six sets to four with rubbers even. This puts them at the top of Division Six at this early stage of the season.

Junior George Rogers made an impressive debut with Alison Douglas as they lost a close three set tussle against the Hallow first pair, before having a straight forward two set win against the second pair. These results were mirrored by captain Lisa Rushton with Chris Hands.
