Bromsgrove Sporting manager Smith offered meeting to 'discuss recent events'

BOSSES at Bromsgrove Sporting have offered first-team manager Paul Smith a meeting to discuss the events of last week.

After contract talks stalled last Tuesday at an executive committee meeting, Smith revealed on Twitter on Friday that he would be standing down from his position at the end of the season and would explain the full details behind his stance come then too.

He added the only reason he had not quit last week was because of the fans.

In an initial statement Smith said he wanted to put all the off-field problems to bed ‘once and for all’ to give his squad the ‘best chance’ of trying to win the Midland League Premier Division.

With 15 games to go, the Rouslers currently top the table, one point clear of Coleshill Town who have played a game more.

Chairman Mike Burke told the Standard last Friday the board had not received an official resignation from Smith and that the matter would be discussed at a board meeting.

Burke was hopeful ‘things would change before the end of the season’.

A statement released from Sporting said: “Following tonight’s meeting, the board of Bromsgrove Sporting Football Club have offered manager Paul Smith a meeting to discuss recent events.

“No further statement will be issued until after this meeting has concluded.”
