BROMSGROVE Sporting are closing in on snapping up Alvechurch’s midfield maestro Joe Adams.

Manager Paul Smith told The Standard he has been chasing the 23-year-old since his father, Lee stepped down as Alvechurch boss last week.

Adams has been a key figure for the the Midland Football League Premier Division outfit making 21 appearances for them this season.

But Smith, who previously worked with the midfielder at Redditch United, said he was confident of bringing Adams to the Victoria Ground.

“I hope to have Joe Adams signed from Alvechurch within the next week,” Smith said. “He is a lad I had at Redditch United four years ago and is someone I hold in very high regard.

“In all the years I have been in management, Joe has easily been one of the best central midfielders I have worked with. In my view he has gone backwards recently, but he knows himself that if he comes and works with me I think we can get him back to where he was at Redditch which was a very good footballer.

“He is a play-making central midfielder who makes things tick. He is great on the ball, looks after it well and has something we haven’t quite had, so I am chuffed to bits to be close to sealing it and hopefully he will be in our squad sooner rather than later.”

Smith said Adams could make his debut in Sporting’s trip to Lichfield tomorrow (Saturday) if he can get his move completed today. But what is for certain is that the Rouslers will be without the services of striker Danny Lennon who has joined Pershore.

Smith added: “Danny is a tremendous footballer, but unfortunately he has come back after nearly 18 months out through injury and hasn’t quite got his fitness levels to where we believe they can get to.

“We wish him all the very best and if he can get himself as fit as he used to be he will be a great addition for Pershore.”
