BROMSGROVE Ladies D team cemented their position at the top of Division Seven after claiming an emphatic victory over Cutnall Green C.

Following the hiccup against Droitwich in the previous game, Bromsgrove bounced back to run out comfortable winners; dropping only 11 games over the eight sets to claim maximum points.

The ladies dominated from start to finish with the pairs of Marie Hackett and Dilys Thomas and Lisa Rushton with Beccy Smith.

Captain Cornelia Wedelich said: “We know the teams below us have some games in hand so it’s crucial we maintain our concentration as we aim for promotion again.

“Getting maximum points now puts the pressure back on the others as they try to catch us.”

The Men’s F teams also enjoyed success as they claimed a narrow 32-28 victory over Kidderminster B leaving them on course for promotion from Division 11.

The pairs of Roger Colley with Andy Houston and Paul Jubb with Duncan Lewis secured easy wins over Kidderminster’s second pair, but couldn’t recreate their performances against the first pair.

However, with rubbers and sets even, Bromsgrove took the bonus points to snatch the victory.

Elsewhere, in Division Three, Bromsgrove Men’s B took on basement club Beckford A in what turned out to be a tight contest.

With Beckford drafting in two National League players to avoid relegation, Bromsgrove found it difficult to claim victory.

The pairs of Steve Jones with Ollie Stratford and Matt Smith with Ash Rutter claimed two set wins against Beckford’s second pair, but were no match for the National League players meaning it was two rubbers each at the end.

The result sees Bromsgrove hold on to second place with two matches to go, however, teams below have games in hand so it will be a tight battle for promotion come the end of the season.
