MIDFIELDER Liam Armstrong is quickly becoming a popular figure among Bromsgrove Sporting fans and he is determined to keep them chanting his name.

Since signing from Shawbury United in the middle of March, the former Shrewsbury Town and West Bromwich Albion youngster has fitted nicely into Brendan Kelly’s team.

After two impressive substitute appearances, the 21-year-old looks to have cemented himself into the starting XI, displaying a man-of-the-match performance in Saturday’s 3-0 victory over Shepshed Dynamo.

Armstrong also bagged his first goal in front of the Shed End at the weekend, which came as a relief after missing a gilt-edged chance in the 6-0 demolition of Loughborough University on Tuesday night.

“After last week’s miss I’m glad I redeemed myself,” he joked.

“It was nice to hear the fans singing my name and it is great to be involved with a club which appreciates the goals that are going in.

“The crowd gives you such a huge boost to play and makes you want to perform more because there is a lot to lose if you give the ball away.

“They want to see you on top form and that makes me want to improve my game even more.”

Based in Telford, there is no doubting the commitment Armstrong has to play week in, week out for the Rouslers, travelling numerous hours on the train just to get to training and games.

“I travel because I enjoy it. If I did not enjoy the travelling I would not be doing it,” said Armstrong.

“I wanted to be involved with a big club as I heard many things about Bromsgrove before.

“It is a big name to play for which gives me the chance to push higher.

“Hopefully we can win the league this season and then see how high we can get next season.”

Sporting travel to Coleshill Town tomorrow (Monday) as the top two Midland League Premier Division sides prepare to do battle on Pack Meadow’s artificial surface.
