ONE OF Bromsgrove’s most festive events of the year, Avoncroft’s Candlelit Christmas, will take place at the museum between 7pm and 10pm on December 2.
The event takes visitors to traditional English Christmases of years gone by and there are a variety of activities and entertainment on offer during the evening.
Among them are costumed re-enactors who will be preparing the different buildings for the Yuletide season, demonstrating Tudor and Victorian customs in the town house and toll house.
There will also be a 1950s Christmas being readied in the prefab and visitors will be able to see the renovated Lister Mill in action where there will be freshly milled flour available to buy and seasonal baking to try.
Entertainments will include fire juggling, traditional Christmas storytelling, Morris dancing and a Punch and Judy show.
Visitors can also enjoy the spectacle of magical moving trees, a magician performing close-up magic and every kind of festive music from choirs, and brass bands to showman’s organ music and bell ringing.
A craft fair will be held in the Guesten Hall selling local produce and handmade items, while the museum shop will be open selling unique gifts, gift vouchers and Museum memberships.
For youngsters, there is a special reindeer trail, there will be a miniature ‘Santa Express’ on the museum’s railway line and Father Christmas will be on site.
Festive food and drink will also be available, including mulled wine and cider, roast chestnuts, Christmas Casserole, a hog roast, mince pies, doughnuts and prosecco.
Lucy Lewis, Avoncroft Museum’s head of engagement, said: “With Christmas lights throughout the site, the whole museum will be wrapping up warm and getting into the festive spirit with the sounds and flavours of Christmas from times past.”
