Youngsters from Rubery's Holywell Primary School get creative to help launch new vets practice

YOUNGSTERS from Holywell Primary School and Nursery took par in a Vets and Pets competition to celebrate the opening of a new practice in Rubery.

The contest to launch Clent Hills Vets’ new practice saw the children challenged to draw pictures of the types of animals they thought went to the vets.

It was organised by the school’s art teacher and the practice was overwhelmed with the response, receiving hundreds of entries and making the decision very difficult for the judges.

Originally there was going to be a winner and runner-up from foundation, key stage one and key stage two but because the level of talent was so high a second winner and runner-up prize was added to the key stage two category.

Reece Roberts, five, won the foundation stage with Olivia May Brown, four, finishing second.

In the key stage two section, Maisie Gauntlett, seven, won and Stanley Ingram-Ray, also seven was the runner-up.

The key stage two (eight to nine years) was won by Ella Mai Parkin, eight, with Sophia Linton, nine, in second.

And in key stage two (ten to 11 years), Finley Vaughan, ten, was judged to be the best, closely followed by 11-year-old Kirsty Hay.

Special thanks was given to Ellie Davey, 11, for the creativeness and effort she put into her canvas, which is also hanging up on the practice wall.

Prizes included a national book token, a Clent Hills vets goody bag full of drawing materials and other fun items, a ‘behind the scenes tour’ of the Rubery surgery with their families, and to have their artwork displayed in our Rubery waiting room.

A spokesperson for the Clent Hills Vets said: “We’re over the moon with our new artwork, it really brightens the place up and makes for a family friendly and place for our clients and their pets to relax in.”

The practice is located in the old HSBC building on New Road and will offer a much needed, comprehensive veterinary service in the heart of the community. Facilities include a state-of-the-art theatre and dental equipment, and there will be a dedicated team of vets and nurses to take care of pets.

Director and practice manager Rebekka Fiorani said: “With three well-equipped veterinary practices surrounding the Clent Hills, we will be able to offer a more complete service for new and existing clients that have previously sat on the borders of our two localities.

Clent Hills Vets provides free health checks and starter packs for new kittens and puppies, free weight and diet consultations and a TLC pet health club from £10 per month.
