YOUNGSTERS from across South West Birmingham can learn all they need to know about fixing their bikes at a special half-term children’s bike maintenance workshop.
The event will be held between 2.30pm and 4.30pm on Wednesday, February 21, at Cycle South Brum’s base at Northfield EcoCentre.
As well as learning how to look after and maintain a healthy bike they will also learn science, maths, engineering skills and how to work as part of the teamworking during our maintenance class.
Among the aspects learnt during the course will be naming parts of the bike, safety checks to carry out, how to pump up tyres, an introduction to hand tools, washing and lubricating a bike, testing brakes and a recap.
This class is about how to look after a healthy bike that isn’t broken.
Children should bring their own bike if they can, but if this is not possible Cycle South Brum has some children’s bikes that participants can work on in this class.
Aprons, gloves, hand cream and all tools and equipment will be provided.
Participants will be likely to get dirty during the session so appropriate clothing should be worn.
