COUNTY council bosses marked World Social Work Day by applauding social workers for the positive impact they have on society.

On Tuesday, March 16 senior staff thanked social workers for their efforts and hard work, especially during the pandemic.

World Social Work Day is a national celebration highlighting the achievements of social workers and the importance of the work accomplished by these professionals.

It recognises the difference they make to people’s lives on a daily basis.

County councillor Adrian Hardman, cabinet member with responsibility for adult social care, said: “Our social care staff are incredibly dedicated and hardworking.

“They have continued to provide support throughout this pandemic and I would like to personally thank all our social work and social care teams for their commitment during these extraordinary times.”

The authority has a total of 253 social workers and social care workers in its workforce – many of whom shared videos, news stories and their own accomplishments on the special day.

The British Association of Social Workers stands together with social workers across the world to mark the day and has put together a bumper programme of activities throughout the rest of March to shine a light on what unites social workers in the UK and globally.
