West Midlands Ambulance Service staff put together advent calendar to spread hope through the festive season

STAFF from West Midlands Ambulance Service are spreading hope with a very different kind of advent countdown this December.

Service members are taking turns to post a message of thanks every day until Christmas eve, at 8.30am, on its Twitter page.

Each member will tweet a message about what they are grateful for in 2020, despite its challenges.

A spokesman said: “There’s no doubt that 2020 has been a challenging year for all of us, with everyone experiencing their own personal struggles. Within the trust, this year has seen mass recruitment in call assessors to cope with demand, students stepping in on the frontline and staff even making the brave decision to move away from home in order to keep both their families and patients safe.

“With everything that’s happened, or hasn’t, this year due to the pandemic it could be very easy to sweep it under the carpet, but our staff wanted to take the time to reflect and appreciate what 2020 has given them.”

From staff who have come through covid themselves or treated others with the condition, to those for who 2020 meant bringing new life into the world, the WMAS Advent Calendar aims to inspire hope as we head into 2021.
