THE Rory the Robot county cancer appeal has received a £20,000 boost from the organisers of Strictly Worcestershire.
The annual dance spectacular, hosted by TV and radio presenter Adrian Chiles, attracted a sell-out audience of 750 to the Chateau Impney, Droitwich, in May and raised a record total of £37,000. Rory is a surgical robotic system which allows surgeons to perform minimally invasive surgery.
Appeal chairman Ian Jukes said: “The amount raised shows how events like Strictly Worcestershire can make a big difference in supporting the funding of our new robotic surgical unit for the Alexandra Hospital, Redditch.
“I’m also aware of its positive impact on raising awareness of prostate cancer in our community.”
Sponsored by drp and A1 Recruitment Solutions, this year’s event also raised funds for the Worcestershire Prostate Cancer Awareness Group.
