THE much delayed show by the Midland Bonsai Society is to be finally held on Sunday, October 17 at Birmingham Botanical Gardens – and the Redditch branch will be playing a starring role.

Running from 10.30am to 4pm entry to the show is free once entry has been gained to the Gardens , on Westbourne Road in Edgbaston with a range of attractions on show:

· An exhibition of trees by members who will be competing in various classes, a display by the Redditch Bonsai Society, there will also be talks at midday and 2pm about growing bonsai from scratch and photographing the trees, demonstrations, bonsai trees for sale as well as plenty of experts on hand offering advice on growing these miniature wonders.

Judith Davidson, from Rubery,  who chairs both the Midland and Redditch Bonsai Societies said: “Bonsai is both a hobby and an art form.

“There are a lot of misconceptions about it too. It’s true some trees can cost hundreds of pounds, but you can also grow them from cuttings and seeds too which cost very little.

“It’s a hobby that’s open to all ages too – all you need is a little bit of patience.”

The Redditch Bonsai Society meets regularly at Webheath village hall on the third Thursday of the month at 7.30pm.
