Rednal nurse to take to the skies in aid of Alzheimer's Society

A DAREDEVIL nurse from Rednal is set to take to the skies with a charity wing-walking session.

Rachael Carr will take on the high-flying challenge on Sunday, August 20 to raise funds for Alzheimer’s Society and help raise awareness of the thousands of people living with dementia.

The 25-year-old, whose close family have been affected by the condition, has already battled her fear of heights by completing a 70-foot abseil and parachute jump last year.

This time she will be strapped to the top wing of a Stearman biplane, experiencing aerial acrobatics over the Wiltshire countryside.

She said: “I decided to raise funds for Alzheimer’s Society after my grandmother and great aunt went through the dementia journey and unfortunately lost their fight with Alzheimer’s disease.

“Also, as a nurse I have cared for people living with dementia and wanted to help make a difference to people going through this difficult time”.

An estimated 26,000 people over 65 live with dementia in Birmingham and the Black Country, while the condition affects many more carers, family members and colleagues.

Emma Dowler, community fund-raiser for Alzheimer’s Society, said: “We rely on the generosity of individuals and companies like Rachael Carr to enable our charity to continue its work.

“The support from Rachael is fantastic and we hope that she has an amazing experience on her wing walk.”
