Police launch a clampdown on shoplifting across Bromsgrove district

POLICE have launched Operation Yuletide to target shoplifters who are targeting stores across Bromsgrove district over Christmas.

Officers will be working with stores by providing crime reduction advice and information on how to keep premises and merchandise safe and secure.

Worcestershire Supt Kevin Purcell, said: “We know that offenders target certain retailers across Worcestershire during the festive period because of the volume of high value goods they stock for consumers and we will be advising them of the appropriate crime reduction steps they can take to ensure the threat of theft is reduced.”

Taking steps like ensuring high value items are not placed close to an entrance or exit and ensuring valuable items are covered by CCTV can significantly reduce the likelihood of being targeted.

“We will be in and around busy shopping areas to conduct high visibility patrols throughout the Christmas period and I encourage shop owners to engage and work with us to keep you protected during periods of increased footfall and higher levels of demand,” added Supt Purcell.
