Plenty for all to see in second week of the Bromsgrove Festival

THERE will be plenty more events for all ages and interests as The Bromsgrove Festival enters its second week.

There are two Catshill History Walks which look at the places, buildings, people, work and events, including the nail industry. They start at the village’s library and have been organised by the Bromsgrove Society. The first is on Tuesday, June 27, at 6.45pm, and the second is next Sunday, July 2, at 2pm. A screening of the National Theatre’s live performance of Salome (15) takes place at Artrix at 7pm on Tuesday, June 27. Visit www.artrix.co.uk for more information and tickets, which are £15 or £13 for the over 60s and students.

The Syska Flute Quartet will be at Avoncroft Museum’s New Guesten Hall at midday on Wednesday, June 28. There is also a lunch afterwards at 1pm. The event is part of the Festive Classics series. The 24-hour Bluegrass Charity Pickathon, an acoustic session to support the charity Burnaid, is being held on the High Street from 2pm on Thursday, June 29, to 2pm next Friday. Musicians are welcome to the free event and the nightshift is being undertaken by music teacher Andrew Wuzik. Email [email protected] or call 07449 032411 for more details.

A live screening of the Royal Opera House’s Otello (12A), featuring World famous tenor Jonas Kaufmann, takes place at Artrix at 7.15pm on Wednesday, June 28. Tickets at £15 or £12 for students and over 60s are available at www.artrix.co.uk or by calling 01527 577330.


A fun flower arranging demonstration entitled Summertime is being given by Virginia Davis at Bromsgrove Library between 2.30pm and 4.30pm on Thursday, June 29, at Bromsgrove Library. Tickets, available from the library or the Bromsgrove Festival website, are £4.

Bromsgrove Operatic Society will be bringing its Cheeky Pirates of Penzance to the Norbury Theatre in Droitwch from Thursday to Saturday, July 1. There will be plenty of swashbuckling humour guaranteed to put smiles on faces. Tickets – from the Norbury Theatre on 01905 770154 or at www.bromsgroveoperaticsociety.co.uk – are £11 for adults and £7 for children up to 16.

Award winning writer and performer John Tams and virtuoso keyboard player and vocalist Barry Coope will be at 8pm on Thursday at Catshill Club for Bromsgrove Folk Club’s latest event. Artrix will host Bromsgrove Concerts Prize Winners Concert next Friday, June 30. Toby Hughes, the outstanding winner of last year’s International Competition for Young Musicians will take to the stage at 7.30pm and will be accompanied by pianist Ben Powell. Rubery Drama Group will perform a play reading of the stage version of the Vicar of Dibley next Friday at the Beacon Church Centre. Refresh Rubery, a day of free community activities based in and around the village, will be held between 11am and 3pm next Saturday, July 1.

An Organ Recital featuring works by Bach, Buxtehude, Schiedmann and Schumann will be performed by Callum Alger, the assistant director of music at St Peter’s Collegiate Church, Wolverhampton. It takes place at All Saints Church at 6pm next Saturday. Tickets, which include an interval drink, are £8 or £4 for under 16s. They are available on the door. Bite Sized Classics, a free concert to introduce people to classical music, will be held at 3pm next Sunday, July 2, at St Andrew’s Church in Charford.
