THE FOURTH annual charity picnic and family funday in memory of Amy Shimmell and to raise funds for Birmingham Women’s Hospital Charity will take place this Sunday, June 9.

The event will have a change in venue and take place at Rubery Leisure Centre from 12pm.

Amy’s sister Lucy said: “Amy fulfilled her vocation at the hospital as a neonatal nursery nurse.

“We tragically lost our beautiful Amy in September 2017, but we are trying to keep her passion for patient care alive by raising money for this vital cause.

“We have since become close with Amy’s colleagues and this is also our way of recognising and celebrating the fantastic work that they continue to do.

“We strive to do something good in Amy’s memory every summer to mark what would be her birthday.”

In the past the group has arranged a charity ball, 10k runs, half-marathons and, throughout the pandemic, they managed to raise more than £3,000 with a virtual challenge that friends and family, and even past patients that Amy had helped over the years got behind to support.

During this year’s event, visitors will be able to enjoy a homemade cake stall, raffle, tombola, inflatables and music from local DJ – Mr G’s Mobile Entertainment.

Other attractions on the day will include a selection of local craft stalls and a performance by Illuminate Performing Arts School.

The Birmingham Women’s Hospital Charity aims to improve patient services for the hospital’s women, babies and families.

The organisation funds essential services that the NHS is unable to cover and ones which make a huge difference to patients.

Among them are Woodland House, the trail-blazing new centre for bereaved parents, as well as the research and development of cures, treatments and new technology.

Email Lucy at [email protected] or search for ‘Charity Picnic and Fun Day’ on Facebook to find out more.

Businesses which can support the cause are also urged to get in touch.

Entry is £3 per person or £10 for a family of five – this can be paid on entry or visit shorturl.at/bFPSY to prebook tickets.
