A NORTHFIELD man convicted of five counts of rape and five counts of sexual assault has been jailed for 15 years.

Andrew Brueton, 38, of Merritts Brook Lane, received the sentence at Birmingham Crown Court last week and has also been placed on the sexual offenders register.

The multiple counts of rape and sexual assault took place between December 2014 and June 2017.

Following the verdict, West Midlands Police praised the victim who came forward and spoke out about the ordeal Brueton had put her through.

Det Con Kirsty Gray, from the force’s public protection unit, said: “The victim showed tremendous courage to report these repeated offences.

“She had suffered at the hands of Brueton over a period of time, both physically and mentally, and by reporting these we were able to fully investigate and bring him to justice to end her own suffering.

“We have specialist officers available to support anyone who reports sexual attacks and also work with other agencies to help them through the criminal justice process.”

Anyone wanting to report abuse they are receiving should call police on 101.
