MORE people than ever are stepping up to speak out safely about crime as West Mercia sees a 28 per cent increase in information given anonymously.
From April 2016 to March 2017, the Crimestoppers’ UK Contact Centre handled over 2,200 reports from people living in Worcestershire, Herefordshire, Shropshire and Telford.
Pauline Hadley, West Midlands regional manager for Crimestoppers charity said: “This is an impressive increase that shows how the public are putting their trust in our charity as a way to pass on crime information whilst remaining 100 per cent anonymous.
“Often people are too scared or concerned to speak directly to the police, despite holding the key in terms of crime information.
“Our guarantee of anonymity means they can pass on information without fearing consequences.”
Crimestoppers encourages people to pass on information about crime 100 per cent anonymously by calling 0800 555 111 or using an non-traceable online form at crimestoppers-uk.org/.
