Midlands Air Ambulance launches its Drive4Live scheme

Bromsgrove Editorial 1st Dec, 2018   0

MIDLANDS Air Ambulance Charity is launching its ‘Drive4Life’ with corporate partner M6 toll.

As the number of car crashes attended by Midlands Air Ambulance charity continues to rise each year, the emergency pre-hospital service has launched the campaign to highlight the increasing cost to the charity, which relies wholly on community donations.

Each air ambulance mission costs £2,500 which is funded by the communities it serves and local businesses.

Locally so far this year, the charity has attended 86 serious accidents in Worcestershire and in 2017 it attended 664 smashes across the region, at a cost of £1.7m.

Air operation manager Ian Roberts said: “Unfortunately, there is an upward trend in the number of RTCs we attend year on year, which has a cost impact on the charity.

Already this year we have attended 405 which cost more than £1m.”

James Hodson, director of motorway operations at M6toll, added: “While statistically the M6 toll is one of the safest motorways in the UK, we are always grateful for the lifesaving support of the Midlands Air Ambulance when accidents do occur.

We are so proud to support this valuable campaign, helping to communicate vital road safety messages to drivers across the Midlands and beyond.”
