AN EXTRAVAGANZA of Asian music, dance, crafts and food is set to bring a carnival atmosphere to this year’s Worcester Show, with a Mela Marquee offering a warm welcome to all the family.

Mela means festival of togetherness and Worcester Mela Partnership are promising a riot of colour, fun and celebration when they arrive at the Show for the first time.

Both the main stage and the community stage will include performances of traditional Asian dance as well as contemporary music, and the brightly decorated Mela Marquee will offer an Asian Bazaar, free craft activities for children, a henna artist, cookery demonstrations and Asian food and drink.

Mela’s aim is to unite the city through culture, colour and creativity and members will be in celebratory mood as they welcome visitors to their extravaganza.

Vice chair of the Worcester Mela Partnership, Anjali Fowler, said: “We’re very much looking forward to welcoming visitors to our Mela Marquee at the Show, so they can join with us in a carnival atmosphere of colour, fun and celebration South Asian style.

“Mela is all about bringing communities together in celebration and we’re delighted to be part of this year’s Worcester Show.”

Worcester Show takes place on Sunday August 14 at Pitchcroft Racecourse and will include 140 competition classes ranging from floral displays, fruit and vegetables and cookery to arts, crafts and photography. There will also be a fun dog show.

Other attractions will include a traditional merry-go-round, bouncy castles, face painting and a sports zone. There will be a variety of food and drink on offer as well as an array of market stalls and independent stalls.

Musical entertainment will be spread across two stages with bands taking to the Tom Jones main stage and other acts appearing on the community stage.

The show is delivered by Worcester City Council, supported by the Friends of Worcester Show, and for 2022, in partnership with Worcester BID, Worcester Timber Products and Chin Badger Media.
