TWO MASKED men armed with machetes robbed the Co-Op in Catshill last night, escaping with cash and cigarettes.

The incident at the store in Gibb Lane happened at 10.30pm as the staff were cashing up.

The men answered and demanded the employees open the safe.

They then took their haul before fleeing and it is believed they got into a grey Audi A5 that was parked on Barley Mow Lane and headed off towards the A38.

Det Insp Justin Taylor said: “Nobody was injured in the robbery but this will have been understandably very upsetting for the four members of staff that were present and we will be offering them support.

“They did exactly the right thing in doing what they were instructed by the offenders and then immediately calling us when they felt safe to do so.”

He added officers were investigating and following up on a number of enquiries, adding information from the public could be key to catching the raiders.

He appealed for anyone with any information on the incident to call police on 101, quoting incident number 787s of September 12, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
