Make some noise for the Balaams Wood orchards at Frankley Wassail

Bromsgrove Editorial 12th Jan, 2018   0

APPLE-loving residents are being urged to make a lot of noise at a special event tomorrow.

The community orchard wassail at the Balaam’s Wood local nature reserve offers the chance to go along with pots and pans to bang to ward off evil spirits.

The act of wassailing, a medieval English tradition, also sees participants make an offer made to the trees to ensure a good harvest.

There will be singing and dancing with Appalachian group Step on Board.

Penny Moore, from the Friends of Balaam’s Wood, said: “We usually have a good turn-out and it’s always lots of fun.

“We need to make as much noise as possible to ensure our efforts bear fruit,” she added.
