Local doctors issue another plea for people with long-term health conditions to have a free flu vaccination

LOCAL doctors have issued another plea for people with long-term health conditions to protect themselves by having a free flu vaccination.

They say flu on top of any long-term health condition can develop into something more serious and could lead to a hospital admission.

You are eligible for a free flu jab, if you have a serious long-term health condition, including:

COPD, bronchitis, emphysema or asthma, heart disease, kidney disease, liver disease, diabetes, have suffered a stroke, have lowered immunity, a neurological condition or problems with your spleen.

Dr Carl Ellson said: “People with long-term health conditions are used to managing their health.

“However, many do not realise the risk flu can pose to them. Getting flu when you already have a health condition can lead to serious complications.

“The flu vaccine changes every year so to fight the latest strains of flu even if you had a jab last winter, you need another one this year to stay flu safe.

“My advice is to get your jab now to protect yourself, your friends and your family.”

The vaccination is available from local doctors or pharmacies.
